Our own Black Dog Club

We love our big, black dogs so much are forever grateful.

Three years ago my husband and I decided to adopt a dog from GBHS. We wanted to help free up space for other dogs in need. On July 25, 2007 we got Kate, a black lab/sheppard mix. We quickly fell in love with her. She's sweet and smart and always ready to go new places to have fun. She loves herding our two cats, Allie and Ro, as if they're sheep. She obsesses over squirrels and enjoys jogging and playing in water. Over time we decided she needed a friend. Out of loyalty to the Black Dog Club we decided we should get another black dog. Kate loves all dogs but she's always preferred larger breeds so we knew we needed a big dog. I looked for several weeks at adoptables on the GBHS website and one large, black dog stood out. His name was Senor, a six month old black labradoodle mix. On May 20, 2010 I decided to meet him. My husband was working so I dragged my mother along for the ride to GBHS. We met Senor and I knew I had to have him. We were encouraged to bring Kate back so the two could meet on neutral territory. They greeted each other as if they were old buddies. After testing Senor with a cat to make sure he was "cat friendly" we were able to bring him home. We changed his name to Senor Cody and call him Cody for short. He's the perfect completion to our family. Kate and Cody play nonstop. He loves to chase his mini-soccer ball. Cody is a strong jumper-the first few weeks we had him we were shocked to find him up on the kitchen table a couple times. He barks at the broom and vacuum cleaner. Our vet said he believes he is part schnauzer so we call him our "goofy little labraschnoodle." Everyone loves his "old man" beard and askes us about him wherever we go. Thank you, GBHS, for helping us form our own Black Dog Club at home! We love our big, black dogs so much are forever grateful.
