The American Institute of Architects Birmingham Chapter and The Greater Birmingham Humane Society have teamed up for the third year in a row to bring “Gimme Shelter: Barkitecture Tour & Charity Auction” to the Greater Birmingham area.
The project allows local architects and artists a chance to display their creative skills to a wide audience while helping raise funds to benefit the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.
Birmingham area architects and renowned artists are participating in this unique project and competition. Functional doghouses are designed and built by the architects, designers, and artists. The Barkitecture will the be on display at Colonial Brookwood Village where they will be judged by a panel of their peers and then auctioned off on August 22, 2009 at the Charity Auction at Old Car Heaven.
In addition to the unique doghouses, local artists will hand-paint pet food bowls and fire hydrants to be auctioned off in the Gimme Art Gallery at the charity auction as part of our one-of-a-kind silent auction where you can find many unique and great items including trips, dinners, and more.
Don’t miss the Gimme Shelter Charity Auction on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at Birmingham’s newest and hippest venue, Old Car Heaven located at 3501 1st Avenue South. Doors open at 6:30pm
In conjunction with the live and silent auctions, the event will also feature live entertainment by Cracker, food provided by The Veranda on Highland1, drinks, and fun.
